RABBLE-ROUSER

MY FATHER'S SHOFAR
© 2004 Jordan Margolis

There it is.
high up on a shelf,
out in the open,
no locks,
just there for the taking

But I know better
than to touch it
let alone take it down
and hold it,
It's my father's shofar.

Curling and twisting
carved with precision
waiting for just the right B'al Tekiyah
at just the right time
on Rosh Hashana

My father doesn't practice
He doesn't need to
He's a natural.

Tekiyah, Shevarim, Teruah
Sharp and clean
Clear and true

Tekiyah is blastphemy
Shevarim's thrice as nice
but Teruah believers are trilled

When my dad blew the shofar
Man, I'd just sit and smile
and think, someday someday, it'll be my turn

My dad's gone
but he left me his shofar
to connect
with Jews everywhere
with God
with him

Now, it IS my turn.

So, if you don't mind
I'd just like to let loose
and blow
cause when I hear his shofar blast,
it sounds the same to me,
like he's still here

Help me out now,
Let me hear ya say - ATekiyah
Who digs the AShevarim Teruah?
How bout a lefty ATekiyah?

What's a cat gotta do to get a big >ol Tekiyah Gedolah@ around here?

Thanks buds, now I'm cool with the New Year.
